Announcement: On Writing

It took me about 10 years to finally pick up writing, even though I knew I wanted to.

I just didn’t know how to start. Not for the lack of trying, though. I started several times, but I was stuck between my own anxieties and wrong (mostly toxic) beliefs society reproduces about writers. Big surprise, I didn’t get anywhere and gave up. Over the years, I searched out information online and in craft books that helped me to start my writing journey in 2017 finally.
With this series of articles on writing, I want to share how I used to sabotage myself and what helped me to make a meaningful change. I want to walk you through every step of the writing process from beginning to end. Some stages I still have to experience myself yet, but I hope to learn and improve myself as I’m writing this series.
Most tips and information, I probably learned from someone else and adapted it to my own needs. Of course, I will reference my sources so you can have the chance to check them out yourself.

Let’s take a look at the list of topics I came up with so far.

Build your own writing habit

What is a writing habit?
Why is it essential?
How do I start my own routine?

General rules of writing

What is good writing?
Rules vs. Feeling for language
Convention vs. creativity

Storytelling & its elements

What are the elements of storytelling, and what do they mean?
What makes stories enjoyable?

Editing & revision process

Different forms of editing
How to keep track of what needs to be done

Submitting & publishing

How do you submit your work?
Where do you find possible places to submit to?
How to handle rejection?

Nothing is set in stone yet. Some topics might need more attention than others. I want to give myself the freedom to explore these as well and thoroughly as I can. If you have anything you want me to talk about, let me know in the comments.

I plan to post these monthly. It starts in February with me talking about creating a writing habit and why it is crucial if you want to take your writing to the next step.

I’m so excited and hope to hear from you soon!
